HOW?
At cruise you can choose to use less fuel than the car manufacturer programmed into your car’s ECU
WHY WOULD THE CAR MANUFACTURER NOT DO THIS IF IT SAVES FUEL?
Catalytic convertors works the best at a 14:7 air fuel ratio ie this is the air fuel ratio where they make the exhaust gases the most suitable for passing emissions tests. The problem is that the emissions levels targeted by the emissions legislation is usually not the best for fuel economy.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
Set the AFR (air fuel ratio) to the leanest mixture you can use without experiencing running issues. If the car is using a 14.7 air fuel ratio at cruise, you can choose 15.7 air fuel ratio (7% less fuel) through the POWER TUNER app and it will do the rest. Simple.
DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING ELSE?
Depending on the car you may need to feed the car;s ECU with a simulated narrowband lambda sensor signal. The wideband lambda sensor you are using with the POWER TUNER will probably have this output and it is probably programmable. You will set the 15.7 AFR to send a signal to the cars ECU which tells it the AFR is 14.7. We recommend using Innovate Motorsports products.
